The Stimulation Centre
The stimulation centre runs from 08:00-12:00 daily following the provincial school calendar. Aftercare services are available until 16:30. The starting age at the stimulation centre is two years old. We have different classes to cater for the varied needs of the children and adults attending. We have a toddler class, a school preparation class for children with the potential to possibly attend special needs school, classes who focus on sensory stimulation and life skills, a class for children and adults with cerebral palsy where the focus is on optimal positioning and visual stimulation as well as a class for children and adults where learning only takes place via AAC.
We also have adult classes that places strong emphasis on stimulation, life skills and care. Toilet training takes place across all classes and we welcome children and adults who wear nappies. We believe in age-appropriate stimulation no matter what the level of functioning of the individual is. We follow a multi-disciplinary team approach and work closely with the therapy team to ensure that realistic and efficient goals are set for each individual. In addition to the daily programme, we also host a number of special days and events to ensure optimal social interaction and participation.
Therapists on site form part of the fee structure of the centre. Currently we have Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy and a specialized therapist coming in to work in class format on AAC (alternative and augmentative communication). We also have therapy support programmes such as standing, positioning and hydrotherapy.
